Community Independent School is a working community of children, parents, teachers and community members.
As a nonprofit organization, we encourage and depend upon volunteer participation. The following committees outline the varying volunteer opportunities available at Community Independent School. If you are interested in getting involved, please send an email to info@CommunityIndependentSchool.org
Building and Grounds Committee
The Building and Grounds Committee ensures that all items on the school's maintenance calendar are completed. Members of this committee oversee the following.
- organize and lead fall and spring community work days
- do repair projects as needed and implement maintenance schedules
- meet for 2 exclusively Building and Grounds member work days
- enhance our environment, and plan for future needs
- Garden Crew
- Bulb/Filter Changer
- Recycling
Outreach Committee
The Outreach/Events Committee helps oversee the things we do to connect with the larger community in which we live. Their work includes supporting marketing and recruiting efforts and special events planning such as organizing and coordinating:
- Street Fairs
- CIS Open Houses
- Other events and opportunities to publicize the school
Inreach Committee
The Inreach Committee oversees activities that bring CIS families, staff, and teachers together as a community. The committee:
- supports monthly fall and spring potluck dinners
- organizes Family Safaris: parent-child outings on early dismissal Fridays
- arranges parent workshops/speakers
- coordinates support for CIS families at times of special need<
- seeks to develop new opportunities for community building
- ncludes Newsletter
- includes Scholastic/Trumpet Book Club
- Sponsors Annual Spring Talent show
Financial Development Committee
The Financial Development Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Directors that oversees the Fundraising and Annual Drive needs of the school. Areas of participation include:
- Organizing and coordinating fundraising events
- Providing administrative support for the Annual fund drive (mailings, phone-a-thons, etc)
Board Development Committee
The Board Development Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Directors, is charged with identifying and recruiting new members for the Board of Directors.
Barn Duty Committee
The Barn Duty Committee assists CIS with:
- Animal feed/ hay pick-up and delivery person (from Pittsboro Southern States)
- Weekend/Holiday animal care: to make Saturday and Sunday barn/animal visits and cover during school holidays.
Reading Partners
These volunteers meet weekly to work one-on-one with a student to support his/her growth as a reader.
